Like every other freelancers, it was not so easy for me at the beginning, and sometimes I wonder how long could I manage to do this because many people have dropped off and move back to 9 – 5 office jobs after a few months, few years,…
But thank god that I’m now able to say: Finally, I have made it for one year and so grateful that it’s to be continue…
So, after more than a year of freelancing, what have I gained?
1. More Job Offers
I started off my freelancing journey with a focus on digital marketing, but life had other plans for me. Initially, I took on marketing projects for various companies, with short term contracts, some last for months, and even for weeks and days. But luckily, after awhile most of the companies I work for – decided to open more long term projects and so I got more job offers from that. That’s when things got interesting! I found myself diving deep into more diverse skills, not just digital marketing, but also into the world of international trade, construction bidding, purchasing, and more. I got a chance to expanding my knowledge! Plus, I got to meet some cool partners from diverse industries and make some fancy connections along the way.

2. Financial Stability-ish
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: financial stability. I know freelancing can be a rollercoaster, with no guaranteed contracts and the constant hustle for gigs. That’s why I always feel grateful that I have secure long-term projects with some awesome companies, and that gave my finances a somewhat stable boost. It’s not like I’m swimming in cash, not even close :D, but hey, it’s enough to give me the time to experience this freelance journey and explore different aspects of myself.

3. More Me-Time
One of the best perks of freelancing is having the power to control my time.
If I need to take a break for personal or family matters?
No problemo!
I can easily rearrange my schedule without worrying about losing a paycheck. I can even go for a leisurely walk or explore the world (well, kinda). However, truth be told, with all the client meetings and networking events, I don’t really able to go wherever I want that much, still hoping that I can have a chance to experience digital nomad life someday, It is a bit challenging I know. But, a girl can dream, right?

4. Fewer Friends
Now, here’s the flip side of the coin. When you work in a traditional office, you tend to have a bunch of colleagues and friends to hang out with. But in my case, the friend count has taken a hit. Most of the time, I meet clients or company directors rather than people my age, and I also want to keep everything professional while working so I’m not even thinking about become closer with clients and partners outside of work time. So, my social circle has become a bit limited. I still have many good friends, and old collegues to hang out every week and I’m so grateful for that. But there are moments when I see everyone gathering with their work buddies to discuss about work stress, and I can’t help but feel a tinge of envy.
But hey, at least I have my laptop as a faithful companion!

5. Unleashing the Creative Beast
Last but not least, let’s talk about creativity. As a freelancer, I know that I have to give it my all every day, or else I’ll be left behind, so I have to be more creative, try to find a perfect solutions for me. It’s a no-brainer, really. That’s why I always need to strive to find the right path that aligns with my passions and interests. Therefore, if at any point, I feel like I’m not doing what I love, I’m not afraid to start again and pursue a career that truly excites me. But you know what? I’m actually doing pretty well in my current gigs, and I want to level up. So, I’m putting on my superhero cape and diving deeper into these projects, hoping that someday I’ll write a blog titled ‘What Did I Gain After 2 Years of Freelancing?’ Haha

There you have it! This is what I gains and experiences of my freelancing journey. If you are having a same path as a freelancer, let’s keep rocking your journey, and may your future adventures be filled with even more exciting stories to share!
Cheers!
